2016 Captains Shot Gun - 31st January

On Sunday 31st January, the 2016 Captains of Wells Golf Club ignored the weather and held their Drive in and Shotgun competition. To commence the proceedings, Club President Raymond Smith officially introduced the Club Captain, Erica Klim, Seniors Captain Dave Hayward, Juniors Captain Tom Roberts and Ladies Vice-Captain Tina Davies (standing in for the Ladies Captain, Gill Magrath) to the members.

In the pouring rain the Captains somehow managed to drive off competently and kept their drives 'in bounds' - not easy on Wells' first hole. All entrants in the Shotgun Stableford competition then proceeded to starting positions. Fortunately, by the time everyone arrived at their designated tees for the shotgun start weather conditions had dramatically improved.

Winners on the day were George Davis, Gerald Ramsell, David Cunningham and Guy Timson with 79 points, ahead of 2nd place team, Bill McCollum and Bill Carruthers accompanied by their fair ladies, Tina Davies and Jill Bocquet. The 3rd place went to the Captains' team of, Erica Klim, David Hayward, Thomas Roberts and Ashton Wylie.

It was a very successful event enjoyed by all and it was a great way to kick start the year!

Loft & Lie Check

If you haven't been custom fitted before and you feel your clubs are effecting your performance, why not let us loft and lie your clubs!

Checking the lofts on each club is very important as there needs to be an equal distance gap between all your clubs. If you are hitting your 5 iron higher and shorter than your 6 iron…then now is the time to bring your clubs into us!

Checking your lie angle is also important because an incorrect lie angle will promote more offline golf shots. For example if the lie is too upright the ball can fly left and too flat will cause the ball to fly right.

The professional shop has specialist loft and lie machine to check and adjust your clubs and this service only costs £25.

Re Gripping Service

Our grip and repair service is aimed to be fitted and ready for a 24 hour turn around. We aim to please the customers with excellent service and good quality grips. There are 21 different types of grips to choose from ranging in colour, size and texture.

Why is the grip size so important?

The rule of thumb for the correct grip size is that your fingers should barley touch the palm.

Grip to Small - Finger tips will touch the palm, high grip pressure and changes grip positon. 
Grip to Big - Fingers will be further away from the palm, low grip pressure and lack of hinge/ hand rotation.

Logoed Titleist TruSoft Golf Balls

Titleist have designed a new golf ball to add in their popular line up and it considered to be their softest golf ball yet. According to the Titleist compression measuring device's the golf ball is 15 points softer than the DT Solo. Therefore the nearest comparison to this golf ball would be the Titleist velocity, however TruSoft is lower launching with greater distance. The golf ball also performs fantastic around the greens and simply does what it says on the tin when it comes to a "TruSoft" golf ball.
