Avalon Team News
The Avalon team played their first home game of the season against Long Sutton in lovely spring conditions. The match was played at Wells and with a home turf advantage, Wells came out on top. Simon Jackson and Pete Walker first out strolled to a 4 and 2 win. Mike Metcalfe and Malcolm Terry gained a 2 and 1 win playing an interesting match. Jason Huck and Pascal Norman won 2up with Pascal scoring three birdies and playing some fantastic golf. Mark Western and Ian Burr had a tight game in their hands finishing on the 18th with their opponents holing out a long putt for par to win the hole and game 1up. John Baker and Colin Mantle struggled to claims points and unfortunately lost 4 and 3. It was a great start to the season and we hope the Wells Avalon team carry on their success.
Good luck to Mike Metcalfe and Malcolm Terry who will also represent Wells in the Mockerage Cup at Mendip next Saturday.
Jason Huck, Captain.

Why Golf Lessons Help?
''Tucked away in one of Jack's weekly emails last year was an invitation to put names in the hat to be drawn for the pleasure of some lessons from Jack. Foremost were keen to promote the use of Golf Club Pros to help improve our game.
Having had success in the draw, I enjoyed five lessons to help me with all aspects of my game. Those of you who played with me last season will have noticed an improvement, except for my short game which has dogged me throughout my golfing life.
In terms of my long game, Jack recommended I changed my grip and take a wider stance at address. I now hit the ball longer, straighter and more consistently.
My putting needed a bit of straightening out as well. Jack got me to think more positively and to consciously follow through on a straighter line, keeping my head still and removing the temptation to involve my hands. The chipping remains a real problem for me. I lost it again completely over the winter months so a return to Jack in March was desperately needed. He emphasised the need to remind myself about my pre-shot routine, to take the club back on a straighter plane and to keep my hands in front of the club as I follow through also with an altered address position. I have at least overcome the jitters as I take my club back and I am hopeful that with plenty of practice I will be able to bring my handicap down as my chipping improves.
If you are like me and have only used the professionals occasionally when your game reaches crisis point, I would thoroughly recommend more regular lessons. Despite not lowering my handicap, Jack has made me a more confident golfer, I also had some success last year in cup competitions as a result and I hope I will lose my reputation as a bit of a bandit as my consistency develops this coming season and myself and Jack are positive the handicap will reduce.''
