Tweedale Stableford
A slightly different format was introduced to the Tweedale Medal last week due to course maintenance. Our course pathways are being re-laid with a more durable surface which will improve the path condition. Therefore the par three 10th hole was out of play and the tournament was played over 17 holes. As a result the tournament was made a non-qualifier with a few changes made to the stroke index. Jon Mackness kindly provided a temporary score card with a new stroke index column, the index was based on the scores posted in medals on each hole over the last 10 years to determine an average.
With all this took into account, the competition ran smoothly and it was good to see players enthusiastic about the change from Medal to Stableford. There was only 60 entries in total, so therefore all the divisions played in one and the prize fund was split between first, second and third place. Results were as follows:
First place - Alan Obern (37 points, back 9), second place - Neville Harvey (37 points) and in third place - Bryan Smith (34 points). Two spot winners received £20 each which will be on the accounts in the pro shop.
Alongside the Tweedale the professional shop ran a Bonus Ball raffle. The raffle costed £1 per ticket and the lucky winner received the value of tickets sold in golf balls of their choice! Well done to Ivan Love who won the raffle and took home 15 Srixon AD333 Tour golf balls worth £38.50 . Well done to all other prize winners and we look forward to the next event.
Stragglers vs. Saltford (Home)
To the faint strains of Glastonbury Festival, Wells Stragglers on Sunday played their return match at home hosting Saltford GC. The weather was kind and all matches managed to complete in the dry, before the "Mizzle" came and settled in. The scores were as follows:
- Ron Davy and Pete Bartholmew halved
- Terry Searle and Gary Leigh lost 4 and 2
- Richard Mansfield and Terry Pearce lost on the 18th
- John Baker and Steve Porter won on the 18th
- Mike McKay and Jim Chalmers lost 2 and 1
Therefore, Wells lost 3 and a half to 1 and a half. Steve Porter won the nearest the pin and donated his winnings to the Club Charity, which is "Heads Up".

October Golf Holiday
After a successful golf trip back in March there have been numerous members who would like to attend another golf trip. Therefore, this has been taken into consideration and we would like to arrange another trip for five days in October this year. The golfing location will be different from the previous venues with the possibilities of Spain or Portugal. After a few responses already I will be hoping to arrange the trip soon, so therefore I would like to know who is interested.

Mack Daddy PM Grind Wedges
Roger Cleveland and Phil Mickelson worked closely together to design the PM grind wedge. The wedge design started originally with the Mack Daddy Two wedge, from here the toe was extended outwards and grinded out to create a unique look. This design lets you accelerate through the ball more and enables you to open up the clubface to make use of the extended head design, to be precise this is 39% greater groove area.
Mack Daddy 3 Wedges
The Mack Daddy Three wedges have kept the traditional head design, as you address the club you will see a high toe profile and semi-straight leading edge. The weights you can see in the back of the club head help to create a solid feel and more resistance especially out of the rough. The wedges we have in our professional shop are S grind which is one of the three grinds Callaway offer. The s grind is the most versatile option for a wide range of conditions, shot types, and swings (moderate to sweeping attack angles).
