President's Cup
Ladies President's Cup

The Ladies President's cup was played in blustery conditions, but Tina Davies triumphed over a strong field with a nett 72. Her game included playing off a step and finding a bunker or two. The best silver player was Club Captain, Erica Klim with a nett 74 and the best bronze player was Diane Ramsay with a nett 73. Janice White was the second bronze player with a nett 76.

Bristol & District League - Wells vs. Saltford - Sunday, 24 July

Wells' men played league leaders Saltford in the Bristol & District League. Playing at home in unpleasant wet conditions, Wells got off to a flying start with Charlie Lewis and Baden Wilkinson winning 7&5. Will Thompson and Simon Jackson followed that up with a convincing 5&4 victory and Nick Wilson and Pascal Norman did similarly winning 5&3. Glen Crocker and Mike Metcalfe came back from being four down after nine holes to halve their match against a pair who were a quarter of their age. Dave Hayward and Rich Connock lost 2 down. Wells recorded an excellent 3.5 to 1.5 win against a previously unbeaten Saltford.

Wells Stragglers vs. Tall Pines - Sunday, 24 July

Wells Stragglers travelled to Tall Pines, which was a new course to some players, and this combined with intermittent rain proved challenging. Steve Porter and Gary Leigh played a steady game however and triumphed 3&2. Bill Levell and Andrew Boatswain found the opposition a bit of a handful and lost 5&3. John Baker and Philip Kenworthy had a very tight game with never more than one in it, finally losing on the 18th. Terry Searle and Colin Wilde fared better and sealed a fine win 4&3. Mike McKay and Pete Michel were five down after six, but found some form to stage a mini-fightback before finally losing 4&2. The overall result was 3-2 to Tall Pines.

Wells vs. Mendip Spring - Sunday, 31 July

Wells played Mendip Spring at home this Sunday on a sunny, but breezy day winning 4-1. Wells got off to a good start with Rich Connock and Jack Baillie, one of three rookies to turn out for Wells, winning 4&3. Next was a solid pairing of Rob Payne and Will Thompson winning pretty convincingly posting a 7&5 win. Third were the two other rookies Colin Mantle and Andy Roberts who kindly filled in for the missing players this week, they unfortunately lost 7&6 to Mendip Springs' best pair. Fourth out was Mike Metcalfe and Baden Wilkinson, they were four down at one point in their round, but fought hard to win one up. Lastly were the duo of Pascal Norman and Nick Wilson who won 7&5.

Wells Stragglers vs. Sherborne (Away) - Sunday, 31 July

The Wells Stragglers played away to Sherborne on Sunday in dry and good course conditions against a very friendly club. Unfortunately, Wells lost 4-1, but since Sherborne didn't provide a team for the match at Wells, the overall result of the two (two) legs was a win for Wells 6 - 4. Individual scores were Richard Mansfield and John Baker lost 2&1, Pete Michell and Colin Wilde lost 3&2, Terry Pearce ably supported by Gary Leigh won 4&3, Steve Heath and Adam Holliday lost 4&3 and Terry Searle and Bernhard Young lost 5&4.

Know your yardages...

iPadIt is good to have a set of clubs fitted for you and when you're hitting the ball consistently, it's also good to know your yardages. A yardage session includes 45 minutes using the FlightScope X2 Elite, to allow you to find your individual yardage for each club. This information is vital to shoot lower scores and will also give you additional knowledge when playing another golf course. The main objective of the session is to gain an idea of how far each club in your golf bag travels. This is measured on the carry distance giving an average yardage for each club. The average yardages will then be put onto an A6 laminated sheet which can easily fit on the outside of your golf bag so you never take the wrong club again. Please see the image below for an example of a Yardage Gapping Chart.

For more information on this service or to book a session please contact our professional shop on 01749 679059 or click here to send us an email.
