Captain's Day 2016
The father and son team of Martin and Freddie Lovell played an excellent game to win the Captain's Day first prize. Erica Klim organised a smooth running day with perfect weather for the large number of competitors playing a four ball better ball format. Freddie Lovell hit a superb drive on the par three 10th which rolled up to the hole and rested just six inches away, almost an expensive drinks round for dad Martin!

Wells played two matches this week - Mendip Spring at home and Knowle
Wells vs. Mendip Springs (Home) - Wells got off to a good start with Rich Connock and Jack Baillie winning 4&3. Rob Payne and Will Thompson won pretty convincingly 7&5. Third were Colin Mantle and Andy Roberts who lost to Mendip Springs' best pair 7&6. Mike Metcalfe and Baden Wilkinson fought hard to win 1up and finally Pascal Norman and Nick Wilson won 7&5.
Wells vs. Knowle (Home) - In the Knowle match Dave Hayward and Baden Wilkinson came back from two two down to win. Will Thompson and Rob Payne romped home 7&6. Glen Crocker and Mike Metcalfe suffered a rare defeat. Pascal Norman and Nick Wilson and Ian Burr and Simon Jackson both won 1up. This means Wells have progressed from bottom of the league with four straight wins. If they win their final match they are optimistic about promotion.
Wells Ladies at Isles of Wedmore
Wells Ladies were well represented at the County Bronze meeting held at Wedmore with Julie Blunden winning the Lovell Trophy, Mary Harrison winning Division Three, Sylvia Gibbon finishing runner-up in Division Two and Janice White third overall.
Wells Ladies King Castle Cup
The Ladies played the King Castle Cup when just three clubs and a putter can be used. Playing in the rain added to the difficulty, but Tina Davies led the way winning with 29 points.
Wells Stragglers vs. Tall Pines
On Sunday, the Wells Stragglers played the return match against Tall Pines which they had won at their club 3 - 2. Wells, with its peaceful and parkland course (with no aircraft taking off or landing), was in beautiful condition and although very windy, we had sunshine all the way. Wells won the match 3 - 2 and therefore the overall score was a half for each club. Team scores were: Terry Searle and Colin Wilde won 5 - 4, Bernhard Young and Bill Levell lost 2 - 1, Terry Pearce and Adam Holliday won 5 - 3, John Baker and Philip Kenworthy won 3 - 2 and finally Pete Michell and Andrew Boatswain lost 5 - 4.
