Captains' Extravaganza
The Captains' Extravaganza was enjoyed by all and raised funds for Heads Up. Paul Barrington delighted everyone with his superb trick show and banter. The Panto Cow performed superbly (thank you Tom and James) depositing a splat on square R23 much to the delight of the winner, Jill Bocquet. The winning balls nearest the balloon markers were: Polly Williams, Richard Sheard, Tina Davies, Josh Higgs and Andrew Boatswain.
Wells Stragglers
The Wells Stragglers played Mendip Springs GC at home. Seven out of the 10 Mendip Spring members have played for over 20 years against Wells and their course knowledge proved better than ours, especially on the greens. Wells lost 3 and 2 with the second leg on Sunday, 25 September. The winning pairs were: Richard Mansfield and Jim Chalmers, John Baker and Philip Kenworthy.
Ladies Interclub League
The Ladies Interclub League team won their match against Orchardleigh in fine style adding valuable points to their season total.
Open Texas Scramble - Friday, 19 August
This year's Open Texas Scramble got underway with the threatening weather forecast staying dry for the majority of the day. With the odd shower and hard waxy ground conditions, the course proved a test for the majority of the field. There was a great entry for the competition with a total of 27 teams with a mixture of visitors and members splitting the field. The results were as follows:
First Placed Visiting Team - John Stubbs, David Lucas, John Blagg and Robert Lawrence (Thornbury Golf Club) - Nett 57.2. First Placed Home Team - Alan Obern, John Sheppard, Mark Edgell and Ivor Mckeown - Nett 56.8. Second Placed Team - Steve Coles, Mark Chivers, David Collins and Andy Coles (Farrington Park) - Nett 57.6. Third Placed Team - Rod Patch, Jason Huck, John Blench and Mike Metcalfe (Wells) - Nett 58.3. Fourth Placed Team - Trevor Isaac, David Hall, Darren Fairchild and David Isaac (Worlebury, Mendip Spring and Weston Golf Club) - Nett 58.6.
Alongside the competition we also ran a nearest the pin competition, including two nearest the pins on a par three and two nearest the pins in "two" on two par fours. Winner of the fifth hole nearest the pin - Rob Wylie. Winner of the 10th hole nearest the pin - Darren Fairchild. Winner of the 3rd hole nearest the pin in 2 - Mike Metcalfe. Winner of the 16th hole nearest the pin in 2 - Paul Prendergast.
Two spots were also included in this bundle with each team who had a two receiving a dozen Srixon AD333 golf balls. A big thanks to everyone who participated and we fully enjoyed running the event this year.
