On the Course...

Hobby HorseThe annual Hobby Horse match between the ladies and gentlemen of Wells Golf Club resulted in a surprise victory for the men. It was keenly contested in a friendly manner and leading the teams out were Club Captain Erica Klim and Doreen Douglas doing battle with Club Captain Elect Stuart Mann and Bill McCollum. This match was held to a draw.

In the following match Ladies Vice Captain Tina Davies and Sue Hockey also achieved a half against their opponents Seniors' Captain Dave Hayward and Mick Currell. After friendly results in the first two matches the tide then began to turn in favour of the men who won the remaining matches. Mike McGrath and Alan Elkins beat Jen Jones and Rose Hallett on the 18th; George Davis and Mike Bailey beat Kim Lord and Cath Levell 4&3; Steve Bouquet and Glyn Hallett beat Sandy Heath and Gill McGrath 2&1. The overall result was a 4-1 win for the men.

The past Club Captains held their Invitation Day which was full of memories, interesting golf and good food. The winners were Adrian Lawrence and Mark Winterskill with 45 points, followed by John Chillington and his partner Nick Bye (second) with 41 points. Club Captain Erica Klim and her partner Andrew Snell were third with 39 points.

The Wells Stragglers played their last match of the season away to Mendip Springs. With water in the lakes and streams, aided by a heavenly top-up it was time for Wells (even though our City name implies we are happy with water) to recognise that things were not in our favour. The result was a win for Mendip Springs by 3 - 2. Steve Porter and Philip Kenworthy lost 3 - 2, Steve Heath sadly lipped out on the 18th achieving a half with his partner Ken Ford, Terry Pearce (magnificent leader and Captain) with his partner John Baker won 4 - 3, Terry Searle and Gary Leigh lost 5 - 4, Richard Mansfield and Pete Michell achieved a very creditable half.

The September Men's Medal results were: Division One - M. Western (nett 70). Division Two - S. Porter (nett 71). Division Three - P. Kenworthy (nett 72).

StragglersOn Sunday "The Stragglers" held their end of season "Yellow Ball Competition". It was a beautiful autumn Sunday afternoon, with blue skies and no wind, with the course just a little damp from Saturday's rain. The winners were: Pete Bartholmew, Philip Spring admirably led by their Captain "Terry Searle". They beat Andrew Boatswain, John Baker and their Captain Steve Heath by one point; to win the coveted trophy.

New in - Big Bertha Fusion range

Big Bertha Fusion Driver £369
The Big Bertha's 460cc titanium Exo-Cage construction with triaxial carbon crown and sole, made it possible to reposition the weight in the back of the clubhead lower. This increases forgiveness, accuracy and gives added swing speed for explosive distance. Speed Step Aerodynamics are designed by aerospace experts (similar to Boeing XR) the club features a proprietary Speed Step and more streamlined head shape, which reduces drag significantly to promote even faster swing speeds for increased distance. The clubhead design is adjustable so you can change the loft and face angle to your requirements to provide an optimum launch and desired ball flight.

Big Bertha Fusion Fairway Wood £229 - You get maximum forgiveness thanks to the Fusion technology, the technology features an ultra-light triaxial carbon crown (78% lighter than steel) combined with a steel body. This has allowed the weight to be positioned further back from the face, resulting in a higher launch and more forgiveness off tight lies, perfect for golfers who struggle to get the ball launching high.

Re-gripping Offer!

Grab yourself a bargain on selected sets of grips all with FREE fitting. All Egigo grips available at £5.95 per grip or get a set of seven for only £35! This offer is only available while stocks last.

This range is the perfect blend between the Revolution range and the Evolution range and has seen an improvement against the last ability of this grip using fibre glass injected fibres into the elastomer polymer material for an amazing grip both wet and dry, with a super long resistance to wear.

Why is re-gripping beneficial?

Re-gripping is normally used to replace the stock grips found on clubs which are the wrong size or a grip which has seen better days. It's good to choose a grip that best matches the size of your hands. When considering this, it's good to select a material, texture, design and colour that's best suited to your style, playing level, and weather conditions. However, one of the most popular and main reasons we change the grips are to replace worn-out, slick grips that contribute to excessive grip tension and pressure.

In theory, grips should be replaced every 40 rounds or every 30 rounds if you're spending a considerable amount of time at the practice range. Regardless of rounds played, a grip should always be replaced at the first sign of noticeable wear such as hard surfaces, shinny patches, cracks, wear spots and complete loss of tack.

Improperly sized grips and grips that aren't suited for certain weather conditions will negatively impact your game and cost you strokes. Comfort, consistency, shot dispersion and shot distance can all be improved with new golf grips.

In the professional shop we offer a wide variety of size, material and style options to suit the needs of all golfers. There is no fitting costs for the grips and grips start from £6.95.
