Seniors' Captain

Glyn Hallett has been elected the new Seniors' Captain and will succeed Dave Hayward. Glyn has been a member of the club for 30 years, and is a local man who was educated at the Blue Grammar School in Wells. Dave Hayward has had an excellent year and has been heavily involved in all competitions and 37 matches.

Seniors' Pre-AGM Stableford

The Seniors' Pre-AGM Stableford was tricky due to a very strong easterly wind which, in golfing parlance, was seen as a three club wind. The excellent greens provided some counter balance.

Mike Metcalfe (5) won the competition with 38 points, Martin Barnes (6) was second with 36, and Bernard Young (20) was third on countback with 35 followed by Trev Jones and Tony Blunden. Piers Dalby had a hole-in-one on 17. I am unreliably informed he used a 3-wood. John Mackness was given the 'Crooked Putter' award in recognition of the excellent support he gave the Seniors' Captain throughout his year.

Tweedale Medal Final

The Tweedale Medal Final Trophy for this year was won by David Cunningham on nett 70, Dave Hayward nett 71 and Chris Betenson on nett 72. John Mackness who organised the Tweedale Medals throughout the year was fulsome in his praise for the greens staff for the outstanding way in which the course has been presented all year.

Wells Junior Club Championships

Early in the month our Wells Junior Championship was played in glorious sunshine which helped Juniors' Captain Tom Roberts to play superbly to win the championship. The winners of the nett and gross awards were Jack Williams, Alfie Lovell, Ashton Wyle and Leighton Woods. The awards were presented by Club Captain Erica Klim, alongside Junior Organizer Martin Higgs who both admired the good sportsmanship displayed during the competition. Klim said, "You are a credit to our club and to your parents."

Captains' Challenge

The keenly awaited annual Captains' Challenge mixed greensomes event took place after heavy overnight rain. However, the competition was played in glorious sunshine. All four Captains made up two teams this year with the hope of at least one pair coming out on top but were beaten by Andy and Polly Williams with an excellent 41 points closely followed by Mike and Chris Gee, runners-up with 40 points.

Know your yardages...

It is good to have a set of clubs fitted for you and, when you're hitting the ball consistently, it's also good to know your yardages. A yardage session is £25 includes 45 minutes with our PGA Professionals using the FlightScope X2 Elite, to allow you to find your individual yardage for each club. This information is vital to shoot lower scores and will also give you additional knowledge when playing another golf course.

The main objective of the session is to gain an idea of how far each club in your golf bag travels. This is measured on the carry distance giving an average yardage for each club. The average yardages will then be put onto an A6 laminated sheet which can easily fit on the outside of your golf bag so you never take the wrong club again. Christmas Draw

It's amazing to think that Christmas is fast approaching, with the recent weather it seems like we have finished summer and now we are starting to think about the festive period. From Friday the pro shop will be starting to sell tickets for our Professional Shop Christmas Draw with a twist...

The tickets will be numbered 1 - 500 and the amount you pay for your ticket is based upon the number of the ticket you draw out of the hat at random. Every ticket number is the amount in pence you pay for your ticket e.g. If you pick ticket number 20 you will pay 20p for your ticket, pick ticket 380 and you pay £3.80 for your ticket. Therefore, the minimum you pay for a ticket is 1p and the maximum is £5. The prize table will be worth over £1,000.
