Avalon Team
The Avalon team kicked off their season at home on Easter Sunday against Worlebury, which made team selection difficult with people having family commitments. So special thanks to those that turned out and brought us our first win of the season 3-2. The match was played out in dry conditions with a strong challenging wind. Results were as follows:
- The consistent pairing of Mike Metcalfe and Malcolm Terry came in with a 2&1 win.
- James Rutt and Jason Huck played out a very tight match going down to the last putt of the game on the 18th to win 1Up.
- Pascal Norman and John Baker both played well with an excellent 3&1 win.
- Glen Crocker and Colin Mantle. Glen struggling with his game on the day and one of their opponents having a very good day succumbed to a 5&4 defeat.
- Ian Burr and Grant Rogers. With Ian out of form on the day, even Grant's good play could not stop the loss of 2Down.
The next game takes place away at Weston on Saturday, 13 May.
Junior Day At Wells Golf Club
On Tuesday, 11 April Thomas Maggs PGA Assistant Professional held a Junior Day at Wells Golf Club. The day consisted of fun golfing activities suited for all abilities and ages. In total 10 juniors took part throughout the day including two boys as young as four years old. After re-fuelling with lunch in the clubhouse, the juniors then ventured out onto the course putting their skills to the test.
The day was a great success and it was great to see new faces and enthusiasm for the game of golf. There will be more Junior Days organised throughout school holidays, so keep your eyes open for posters and emails to make sure you grab a place.

Wells Junior Ashton Wylie Wins The Somerset Under 14's Championship
The weather was set fair for the day and the course was in excellent condition for the 36 boys who were taking part in this year's under 14's event. After a good start, Ashton had a front nine total of 36 giving him a three shot lead at the halfway stage. However dropped shots from Asthon on 10 and 14 gave others an opening to gain shots back. Freddie Turnell stepped up to the plate and showed what a true champion he is with a strong finish, birdies on 14 and 16 saw an inward nine score of a 1-over-par (36). Ashton scored a 6 on 18, leaving Freddie the chance to win if he could find a par. In the end, Freddie managed a 5 to take us to a sudden death play-off.
A large gallery accompanied the boys to the first, where both boys slightly overshot the green with their second shots. Playing first, Freddie nearly chipped in for a three and Ashton left his putt short of the hole. First away again and Freddie's putt narrowly missed again leaving Ashton a putt for the title. Ashton nervously found the centre of the cup to take the title.
This was a great competition played in an atmosphere of great sportsmanship and true friendship.
