April's Tweedale Medal And Lombard Trophy Qualifier
On Saturday, 15 April players prepared themselves for April's Tweedale Medal and Lombard Trophy Qualifier. The day was slightly windy with dry and hard conditions underfoot. The results from last weekend were as follows:
Division One - First place - Bill McCollum - Nett 70 (£18.29), second place - Nigel Goodwin - Nett 71 (£9.14) and in third place - Colin Payne - Nett 72 (£4.57).
Division Two - First place - Freddie Lovell - Nett 61 (£46.86), second place - Jamie Marklew - Nett 68 (£23.43) and in third place - George Davis - Nett 70 (£11.71).
Division Three - Neil Blake - Nett 64 (£29.71), second place - Rory Meek - Nett 69 (£14.86) Robert Sampson - Nett 69 (£7.43).
Two's winners - Stuart Austwick, Roger Burns, Rory Meek, Robert Sampson, Terry Gooch, Ian Mills and Neil Blake (£25.14 each).
Well done to one and all and especially Freddie Lovell, one of our encouraging juniors, with a nett 61 what a great score as was Neil Blake. Unfortunately there is an age restriction of over 18's only for the Lambard Trophy Pro-Am so Neil goes forward to play with Jack our Head Professional. Thank you to all who entered the competition and make sure to enter the next Tweedale Medal in plenty of time to avoid disappointment.
Create Power Off The Tee With Your Legs…
Ever wondered why the Pros hit it so far off the tee with an effortless tempo? "Ground Force" is what many Tour Professionals use to create more power in their golf swings. Using our legs effectively can create more stability and power in the swing. So how do we achieve this?
- On your backswing try to keep both feet planted to the ground with a slight squat in the legs. From here make a full coil with your upper body and shoulders without swaying.
- Start your downswing with your feet and not your arms. The feeling is that your weight in your lower body is sinking into the ground at this point.
- Once you feel your weight more into your front leg, start to unleash the squat position and push up onto your feet as if you were about to jump.
Pushing up off the ground will give you the feeling you are using the ground to create your clubhead speed. Next time you are watching golf on the box, have a look at the swing sequence of Justin Thomas, one of the most talked about powerful swings pound for pound on the PGA Tour.

Discover Our Motocaddy Range
Motocaddy S1 DHC Trolley - £499 - The Motocaddy S1 is by far one of the most popular trollies on the golfing market. Now Motocaddy have introduced the DHC S1 lithium trolley which is perfect for golfers playing undulating golf courses. With a DHC (Downhill Control) function this helps to maintain a constant speed whilst travelling down the steepest of slopes, plus features an electronic parking brake to stop your trolley from getting away. Its design also features a number of improvements including a soft-touch ergonomic handle with digital display. This features a nine speed setting and also has a battery life indicator so you know when you're running low on power.
This S1 trolley comes fitted with an 18-hole lithium battery rather than a lead acid battery, as lead acid batteries are now a thing of the past. Lithium batteries are quicker to charge, lightweight and last longer than a lead acid. In turn the lithium battery is more cost effective over time. Other features include new low-profile quick-re
lease wheels, adjustable bag supports and is compatible with the popular easilock system. Key features are as follows:
- Super fast quickfold assembly mechanism.
- DHC technology (Downhill Control).
- Soft touch ergonomic handle (with digital display).
- Easilock compatible.
Motocaddy M1 Pro Trolley - £499 - The compact-folding M1 Pro electric trolley has a new style frame and five point folding system developed to make the M1 Pro trolley a lot smaller than its S-Series family.
The well designed frame enables an 18-hole lead-acid or lithium battery to remain in its tray when folded. It features an integrated accessory station and an easy-to-use handle height adjuster, plus an inbuilt device cradle, accommodating a wide range of GPS devices that can be powered from the patented USB charging port. This trolley is ideal for golfers who lack space either at home, or in their car as it folds up compact and neatly. Key features are as follows:
Compact frame (over 40% smaller folding).
Adjustable distance control (up to 45 metres).
Patented USB charging port.
Adjustable handle height.
Integrated accessory station.
Quick access device cradle.
Universal battery tray.
Nine speed settings.
Easilock bag support.
