Stragglers News
On Sunday, the Stragglers hosted a team from Sherborne on a lovely day that witnessed some good golf. Half of the Sherborne team refused the coffee at breakfast, choosing instead Thatchers Gold, but it didn't seem to affect them too much. The first pairing of Colin Mantle and Bill Levell had to cope with a big hitting four handicapper and despite a valiant effort lost 4&3. John Hockey and Craig McConnell had a great match, full of banter, but despite the opposition trying to put them off, they had a good win 3&2. John Baker and Richard Mansfield had a very tight match with never more than one in it all the way, until the opposition Club Captain chipped in from off the green for a birdie three on the 15th, and the visitors eventually won 2&1. Terry Searle and Steve Porter had a hard game, not helped when Terry's trolley fell apart on the third and he had to nurse it and drag it till the 12th before he could replace it. It must have badly affected his concentration as they finally lost 5&4. The final pairing of Bill McCollum and Bernhard Young fought well at the end and they triumphed 3&2. So overall at the halfway stage it was a 3 - 2 home defeat which I'm sure can be overturned on the away leg in July. In my opinion, of the games played so far, the team from Sherborne were the most friendly, everyone had a good time and we look forward to the return match.
Terry Pearce (Captain).
Avalon News
In difficult windy but dry conditions, it was credit to the Wells team taking four games down 18th to decide the matches. Unfortunately the team lost 3.5 - 1.5. First out was the reliable pairing of Mike Metcalfe and Malcolm Terry getting the only win 3&2. James Rutt and Jason Huck found it hard going fighting the wind losing 4&2, Pascal Norman and debutant Jamie Marklew took their game down 18 one down, but unfortunately lost two down. Andy William and Glen Crocker played in a tight match which ended all square. Last out Ian Burr and Pete Walker managed to take their game down 18 all square after Ian had a birdie on 17, but both struggled on 18 losing one down.
Jason Huck (Captain).

European Tour Visits Morgado
This week the European tour visited Morgardo Golf Resort where myself and James Keitch took 20 members for our yearly tuition trip in 2016, it was a fantastic week hosting two fantastic courses.
As expected the scoring was fantastic, after two rounds England's Matt Wallace was leading after shooting 63 and 66 to be 17-under-par with another two rounds still to go. The course is a fair test with many birdie opportunities, it also has lots of different tee options making the course a great destination for any golfers looking to play in Portugal.
