Stragglers' News

Well, off we went to the seaside on Sunday to play Dawlish Warren which I understand this fixture has been running for over 20 years. Bernard and Terry S were sent off last so they sat on the bench and fell asleep; not sure if they had their handkerchiefs tied in a knot on their heads. The highlight was as Terry Pearce was just about to strike his ball off the first tee a steam train came thundering through blowing his whistle.

Team result was we lost 4.5 - 1.5, but well done to those that gained three halves. John Baker and Phil Kenworthy halved, John Hockey and Bill Levell halved, Terry Pearce and Steve Heath lost 3&2, Adam Holiday and Geoff Ead lost 3&2, Richard Mansfield and Craig McConnell lost 4&3, Terry Searle and Bernard Young halved.

The breakfast was a real treat.

Junior Coaching Days

Our Junior Golf Days are organised during the school holidays throughout the year, suitable for any young junior golfer. The day will consist of fun activities covering all aspects of the game and includes an afternoon on the golf course. Dates are as follows:

• Monday, 14 August (9:30am - 4:00pm).
• Thursday, 24 August (9:30am - 4:00pm).

Do you know how far you hit each club?

It’s a good idea to have a set of clubs fitted for you, and when you’re hitting the ball consistent, it’s also good to know your yardages. A yardage session which costs £20 includes 45 minutes using the GC2 Launch Monitor in the indoor simulator room. This allows you to find your individual yardage for each club. This information is vital to shoot lower scores and will also give you additional knowledge when playing another golf course. The main objective of the session is to gain an idea of how far each club in your golf bag travels. This is measured on the carry distance giving an average yardage for each club. The average yardages will then be put onto an A6 laminated sheet which can easily fit on the outside of your golf bag so you never take the wrong club again!
