Wheathill vs. Wells - Saturday, 28th April With nearly half the team away in Spain last week we were going to find the greens different today! This became the case in the first match with Simon Jackson and Adam Payne losing on the last green with a putt left by the hole for a half. George Davis and Glen Crocker winning 5&3, gelling well and George keeping his good form from Spain. New pairing of Jason Huck and Danny Wyrwoll took command from the first hole with me chunking in a wedge from the side of the 1st green for a birdie which could easy have ended up off the green! We never looked back from there seeing out a tight game winning 3&2. The only regular pairing of Mike Metcalfe and Malcolm Terry proved again why they are paired together easy winning 5&3. Last out Ian Burr and Bob Lench lost 3&2, not managing to find that spark. So after two excellent away wins to begin our season we now have consecutive home games against the two Stockwood teams, let our form carry on. Jason Huck.

Mixed Reports The Mixed Spring Greensomes was played in a variety of weather conditions with Paul Cullen and Janice White winning the competition with 37 points. Runners-up were Janette Ambrosini and Chris Strickland with Diane Ramsay and Mick Currell coming third. Cullen commented that considering the hail, rain and wind there were plenty of smiling faces. Janice White. |

In a bitterly cold Easterly wind, with beanies a plenty on show, Wells Stragglers played Shirehampton. All the home teams won except Captain Terry Pearce and Adam Holliday. The match result was 5 - 1 to Wells.
The nearest the pin in two was won by Mark Edgell and £24 was raised for charity. Terry Pearce |
Seniors' Report Wells Seniors didn't have the best of weeks, losing two home matches in four days, by 2.5 to 4.5 to Kingsdown and 3 to 4 to Clevedon. On the positive side, three new players made their Wells Seniors debut - Rob Berry, Pete Jones and Richard Roberts. Berry, partnered by Glyn Hallett, won 2&1, and Roberts, playing with Ron Davey, won 5&4. The most consistent Wells player was Dave Hayward, who twice won 4&3, partnered by John North and Piers Dalby respectively. Nick Wilson and Dave Couzens won 5&3, and Geoff Ead and Pete Bartholomew achieved a half. John Moxon.

James Keitch's last day... This will be the last time I will be helping to write content for our professional shop newsletter as I have left my current position at Wells Golf Club on Monday, 30 April. I just want to take this opportunity to thank everyone at the club for making my time here memorable and it has been an absolute pleasure to be a part of the team for the last three years.

Trade-in your old clubs
I am sure many of you have some clubs you no longer use stored in the shed, garage or spare room at home. You have probably thought a few times “I’ll get rid of those sometime” and yet never have. Well, we are offering you the opportunity to get rid of those unused clubs and let us get you some money for them that will then be credited to your professional shop account for you to spend on new golf gear. If you have any clubs you want to get rid of that are under five years old, then pop in to the shop for us to have a look and then obtain a quote for your clubs.
