Seniors v Sherbourne
The Seniors enjoyed two close matches recently, losing the away fixture at Sherborne by two and a half to three and a half, but winning the home match against Taunton and Pickeridge by the same margin. The winning Wells pairs at Sherborne were Dave Hayward and Rob Berry (8&6) and Jock McKinven and Ron Hancock (4&3), with Captain for the day Peter Leverick and Bill O'Callaghan achieving a closely-fought half. In the home match against Taunton and Pickeridge, Steve Bocquet and Steve Dent (making his seniors debut) won 5&4, Peter Leverick and Andrew Boatswain won 4&3, and Mike Magrath and Allan Thompson won 2up. Captain John Moxon and Pete Boehm halved their game, and the other Wells pairs, Mike Gee and Dave Couzens, George West and Ron Hancock, both lost on the 17th.

Wells v Bath GC
Wells GC played top of the table Bath GC recently in the Bristol & District Golf League. With Wells only managing to get a full team out at the eleventh hour for this important home match expectations were not high. Mike Vincent and John Coughlan returned to the fray after years away to team up for the first time. They were up against Bath's top pairing and succumbed 3&2. The not so young pairing of Jack Baillie and Bill McCollum cast age aside and triumphed 2&1. Newly crowned Club Champion Will Thompson combined with Simon Jackson, showing continuing good form with a 5&4 win. Glen Crocker and Ian Burr played very well to continue the shock to Bath's system with a 5&3 victory. Finally, Tim Harris and the now recovered Nick Wilson, fought hard to win 1up.This meant a fine, unexpected victory 4-1 to Wells and ensured their participation in this division for next year. |

Try out SuperStroke and improve your putting
Oversized putter grips have become more popular in golf and they have helped lower scores all over the world.
The advantage of having a slightly larger putter grip means that your hands, wrists and forearms are able to relax. As a result this helps your shoulders rock naturally for a more repeatable stroke.
Many Tour players you see on the television use putter grips which are larger than usual or have a slightly different shape. Players choose these grips so they can effectively distribute their grip pressure on the putter to relieve tension in the putting stroke. SuperStroke grips - £29.95

When tour pros are playing in big events, like the PGA Championship this week, they’ll always have relatively new wedges in their bag to maximise their spin, because worn wedges mean less control.
|
| Why do grooves matter? The grooves are the sole contact point between your ball and the club, imparting backspin to help lift the ball into the air. R&D testing has revealed that after 125 rounds, wedges spin 2,000rpm less than wedges with new grooves and consequently roll 14 feet further on landing - which is huge. What causes wear? All grooves will wear slowly over time due to a number of factors, including gradual wear from play, but golf's equipment manufacturers work hard to limit this. |
| Need to upgrade? Grooves are particularly important on wedges, where pinpoint control is crucial. If yours are looking worn like on the first image above, why not consider the TaylorMade Milled Grind wedge (above), which has ZTP grooves. This design sees grooves with steeper side walls sit closer together, allowing an additional groove to be added to produce more spin than on previous models. Advanced surface milling techniques also ensure precise, consistent performance from wedge to wedge. |
