The benefits of custom fitting One of the most important factors to consider when custom fitting a set of irons is the lie angle of the clubs. Lie angle is the angle between the shaft and the clubhead. The more the toe of the club is tilted upwards away from the ground and towards the shaft, the more upright it is (the opposite being called flat). |
This image shows a club that is being delivered very much ‘toe down’ at impact. This is extremely important for two main reasons: 1. A clubface delivered like this will make it much more likely that you will hit the ball to the right. 2. The sweetspot on a clubface delivered this far from neutral will be much higher off the ground than normal, encouraging you to hit it low on the face and towards the toe (or towards the heel if the toe of the club is in the air). |
|
As you can see from this image, this particular customer was fitted into much more upright clubs, and in combination with stiffer shafts and a small posture adjustment, this made a massive difference to how the club was delivered to the ball, bringing with it much straighter and longer shots. This is just one example of how your clubs can either help or hinder you when you are trying to play your best golf. If you would like any advice on how well your clubs might suit your game, come and speak to us in the Pro Shop and we will be more than happy to help. |

Goal setting for the upcoming season Setting yourself goals during the winter months is vitally important when it comes to improving your game for the rest of the season. Yes, finding the time to play is part of the battle, but you also need to assess your entire game and dedicate time to work on the areas that possibly have let you down in 2018. An example for 2019: - Driver - hit 10% more fairways - Reduce my slice by 50%. - Hole 15% more putts inside 10ft - Get out of the bunker every time The first step is to set yourself some goals and you can then start to work towards them. When goal-setting, remember to make them specific, measurable, realistic and specify your timescale. Once you have done this, pop into the professional shop and speak to one of our pro’s, who can then start devising a coaching plan around your goals and targets and help to turn your weaknesses into your strengths. |
The last thing anyone wants is to purchase a new set of irons, only to struggle massively when they take to the course with their friends a few days later. Sound familiar? Well, with lots of new products about to land in-store for 2019, here are a few iron models that we recommend having a custom fitting for... |
The M5 and M6 irons from TaylorMade are designed for explosive distance, thanks mainly to the innovative Speed Bridge structure that helps stiffen the clubhead to generate higher ball speeds - visible technology that you can see in the images above. The M6 is designed for maximum forgiveness - something that we can all benefit from - whereas the M5 is suited to the better player who is looking for more distance without sacrificing control.
Hopefully, you have an idea of which iron you'd like to put in your bag, but it's not until you come and visit us for an enjoyable custom fitting that you'll know which iron and shaft combination performs best for you. We're here to help you play better golf. |
