A stroke of genius from Odyssey
We are delighted to be able to bring you the all new range Odyssey in their new Stroke Lab putters. These putters are proven winners on Tour with Phil Mickleson being the latest at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro Am on the PGA Tour. Find out more below about this fantastic range available here at Long Ashton:
What makes Stroke Lab such a breakthrough?
Most golfers’ putting strokes are inconsistent, yet most putting technologies focus on improving alignment or improving the quality of roll.
They attempt to mask a given stroke’s weaknesses instead of improving those weaknesses. Odyssey’s new Stroke Lab putter line helps improve the stroke through a change in weight distribution.
|
|
What’s the story behind the Stroke Lab Shaft? The Stroke Lab shaft is a full 40g lighter, made possible by an innovative new multi-material shaft design that combines a graphite body with a steel tip to net out at just 75g, with most of the mass concentrated in the tip. Redistributing the weight by adding 10g to the head in the form of two sole weights, adding 30g to the grip-end via a 10g-lighter grip and 40g end-weight. |
Why is that weighting system so important?
The effect of Stroke Lab’s innovative weight distribution on the stroke is dramatic. Odyssey studies indicate improvements in the consistency of backswing time, face-angle at impact, ball speed, and ball direction. Feel for the putter-head becomes more acute, helping the golfer repeat the same stroke time after time.
How else does Stroke Lab improve performance?
The additional weight in the sole and butt-end of the grip change the putter’s dynamics to help golfers consistently repeat a smoother and more accurate stroke. Combined White Hot feel with dozens of micro-hinges embedded across the face that promote topspin for smooth roll and acute distance control.
These putters start from £199. If you are interested in testing one of the range call us on 01275 392229 or click here.

Wedge Fittings are essential
Wedges are arguably the most important clubs in your golf bag, when thinking about purchasing new wedges our automatic thoughts are directed straight towards what loft is needed, however the bounce angle on a wedge is equally important. Bounce is key and very important when it comes to edge fitting. Wedge bounce is the angle between the leading edge and lowest point on the sole, if you look at a wedge, the trailing edge is lower than the leading edge. This is the bounce angle and it can be seen on most wedges as the smaller number below the loft, for example 08, 10, 14.
|
Technique plays a massive part too and turf conditions are huge in deciding how much bounce you need to have on your wedges. Softer turf conditions require more bounce in the same way that bunker shots are likely to be played with wedges that have more bounce. Also, players who like to place their hands forward, de-loft their wedges and hit down onto the ball should benefit from more bounce to help the club move through the turf.
Those who like the open the face to play flop shots will benefit from less bounce and they are trying to slide the face under the ball. Attempting this on firm ground on a wedge with lots of bounce will likely result in a thin.

Our team of PGA Professionals are all fully qualified in custom fitting and have an in depth understanding when it comes to wedge fitting. We have a wide variety of wedges to try to find the perfect combination for you.
