Coaching tips
Practicing is something that many golfers find boring and/or unproductive. It is very common for us to hear a comment such as “there’s no point me practising, I hit it great on the range but as soon as I get on the course it all disappears”, or “I don’t want to waste all my good shots on the range!” The problem is the way people.
It’s wonderful if you can become extremely skilled at hitting your 7 iron to the same target from the same range bay every time you practice, but that is not playing golf.

The next time you are on the range or practice green with a friend, why not try some Competitive Practice. This closely simulates the challenges you would face out on the golf course by introducing similar mental challenges to the ones we experience in tournament conditions and the concept that every shot counts. Play games and challenges yourself or amongst friends/piers that apply pressure and make practice as hard as it can be on the course. This will help prepare you to succeed when you play the game, not just succeed on the range.
Why competitive practice is useful and how it can help you improve?
- Simulates the Golf Course environment - Helps develop pre-shot processes rather than focussing so much on technique - Highlights your strengths and weaknesses, which can help you then improve them - Add in consequences or extra pressure into practice
If you have any questions on how to get the most out of your practice time, no matter how limited your practice opportunities may be, don’t hesitate to ask and the professional team and we will be glad to help. Call us on 01749 679059 or click here to get in touch. |

Time for a little reflection |
Who doesn’t love the month of June? Long evenings, blistering sunshine (might be a little optimistic here) and plenty of opportunities to hit the course. With much of the season left to go and more competitions on the horizon, it’s time to take note of how you’ve been playing so far this year. |
Scenario 1 Hopefully, you've been playing regularly to your handicap or, better still, shooting under it. If that’s the case then happy days, keep up the good work! But we all know there’s room for improvement. Perhaps you don’t use a particular club as often as you could simply out of a lack of confidence with it? Or maybe you’re struggling with a destructive shot that is impacting your scores?
|
Scenario 2 On the other hand, you might be struggling to put a good score together no matter what you try. Some of you may be recalling a lesson you had from several years back or searching the web for a quick-fix only to be suffering further? Whether you’re in need of lessons, new equipment or a confidence boost, make sure you utilise our professional advice and skill set by speaking to a member of the team in-store. |
