Controlling your ball in the wind Control your ball in the wind with these simple tips...
When the weather turns windy golf can become very difficult and therefore it’s time to adapt your game. In the wind, there’s more force pushing on the ball causing it to spin a lot more than usual. One of the best ways to avoid this happening is to drive the ball low through the wind. In order to do this, there are a few adjustments that need to be made in your stance and swing. Here are a few tips on how to hit the ball low on those windy days.
Swing softer Many amateur golfers focus on hitting the ball harder in the wind thinking that the harder you swing the farther it goes, but in many cases this is incorrect. When you swing too hard more spin is created on the ball which means more curvature, add the wind into the equation and this causes further troubles. If you swing nice and easy, maybe even clubbing down, you’ll be much happier with the outcome having put more distance and less spin on the ball.
Place the ball into the middle/back of your stance If you want the ball to go lower you will need to place the ball further back in your stance. This is seen as one of the easiest ways to cut the ball through the wind. The further back the ball is in your stance, the earlier you will strike the ball with less loft. The determining factor in deciding where to put the ball in your stance will depend on how windy it is and also what type of swing characteristics you have. |
