How to play the dreaded wet sand bunker shot...

• When addressing the ball keep the club face relatively square avoiding opening the club face as you normally would with a standard green side bunker shot as in the wet conditions the club will bounce off the hard, compact sand as if it’s been played from cement.

• Aim to use a wedge which has little or no bounce.

• Place most of your weight on the front foot to help create a steeper downswing, keeping the weight here throughout.

• Position the ball just forward of the centre of your stance.

• Aim for a spot about an inch behind the ball (rather than the standard two inches), then swing to hit the spot, making sure to accelerate the club through impact.

• Remember to plan for the ball to come out faster than usual, carry further and stop more quickly than from dry sand.
