Prime Minister takes a Visit to Wells GC
Bank Holiday Monday threw a surprise visit from the Prime Minister! David Cameron landed in his helicopter on our driving range around midday ahead of going into town for a meet and greet event ahead of the elections. After a brief conversation and a few photos, he thanked all the members at Wells GC for allowing him to land and also commented on how lovely the venue looked. Hopefully he will be back for a round of golf soon….

Monthly Stableford Reminder
Please remember you can take part in the monthly stableford week from the 1st - 7th of each month during the summer. You can play whenever and as much as you'd like during this period, all you have to do is simply pay £1 in the professional shop. The stableford is a qualifier off white tees and scores will go towards reducing your handicap.

Get Your Yardages Perfect
Do you struggle with your yardages at other courses?
Are you uncertain with what club to use on your next shot?
Just a reminder that throughout May, I am offering a 45 minute session using the Flightscope X2 Elite, to allow you to find your individual yardage for each club. This information is vital to shoot lower scores and will also give you additional knowledge when playing another golf course. The main objective of the session is to gain an idea of how far each club in your golf bag travels on the carry giving an average yardage for each club, I will also put these average yardages onto a A6 laminated sheet which can easily fit on the outside of your golf bag so you never take the wrong club again! Wells GC Match Reports
Wells' men played their second Bristol & District Golf League match last weekend. On a clear, bright but windy day the Long Ashton golf course presented its usual difficult challenge to visitors. Phil Slater and Sam Todd lost 4&2 in the first match. Rookie Gary Middleton joined up, for the first time, with Dave Hayward and shot into an early lead. Unfortunately they let it slip away and in the end did well to hang on with a halved game. The ever solid partnership of Zac Cambourne and Rob Payne won comfortably 3&2, but Pascal Norman had a bad day at the office and with partner Glen Crocker crashed 4&3. The overall match was then up to the last pairing of Will Thompson and Mike Metcalfe who needed to win to salvage something for Wells. The game ebbed and flowed but they eventually triumphed 2 up thus halving the match overall and producing a fine result for Wells playing away against a good Long Ashton team.
Wells' Men's Seniors played two home matches last week in dry and sunny conditions but with tricky winds on both days. On Monday against Kingsdown, Bath, Wells scored a resounding 6 - 1 victory with wins coming from Stuart Mann & Allan Bancroft 7&5, Terry Pearce & Ron Hancock 2&1, Glyn Hallett & Colin Wilde 1up, Colin Mantle & Richard Sheard 5&3, Ken Stokes & Len Sweales 2&1 and Adrian Lawrence with John Moxon 4&3. Captain Peter Leverick & George White lost narrowly 1down.
In the second match, on Thursday, Wells beat a very strong Clevedon team to gain revenge for an earlier loss in the away match. The match score was Wells 4½ Clevedon 2½. There were wins for Captain Peter Leverick & Ken Ford 5&4, Nick Wilson & Roger Hancock 1up, Dave Hayward & Bill O'Callaghan 4&2. There were three halved matches for Mike Stringer & Peter Bartholomew, Adrian Lawrence & George Davis and Ken Stokes with Terry Pearce while Piers Dalby and George White lost to give Clevedon their only win.
