Seniors' Open on Thursday, May 21st

The Seniors' Open attracted a field of 125 players on a bright and sunny day with the course in beautiful condition. There were "Hole in One" prizes on each of the four par 3s. No player was successful although 2 flag sticks were hit during the day. The first players teed off at 8.10 a.m. whilst the last went out at 3.00 p.m. Allowing 10 minutes between groups meant that no one was held up and progress was smooth. All players were automatically entered into the 2s competition as part of their entry fee.

The Away winner was Arthur Moughton from Tiverton (36 points), the Home winner was Mike Gee (41 points) and the Over 70s winner was Peter Ramsay from Wells (38 points).

Avalon Team - Wells V Oak Manor

The Avalon team had another home game against Oake Manor this Saturday in glorious sunny weather with the course in excellent condition with loads of complements from the Oak players.

Unfortunately for Oake they found the Well's team in no mood for them to enjoy there day too much by winning 4 ½ to ½.

Simon Jackson & Pete Walker again finishing their game again on 18 in little more comfortable position going up 18 1up and winning 2up.

Jason Huck & Mark Western had a great game been 5 up on 12 managed to try and make it more interesting by losing 13 and 14 with one of the Oake players driving the 14th, halved 15 and 16 winning 3&2.

Mike Metcalfe & Malcolm Terry were in a comfortable position 2 up on 11 then found themselves up against it after losing 12, 13, 15 and 16. So they were 2 down on 17 I was not expecting too much but both making 3's to win the 17 and Mike making 4 on 18 to win the hole and halve the match.

James Church & Colin Mantle made easy work of their match by winning 5&4. I put this win down to Colin wanting to finish early because he was hungry after missing breakfast before the game by driving down to Oake Manor and finding out the game was at home!!!!

John Baker & Mike McKay after finding themselves 3 down after 3 thought they were in for a tough game but fought back courageously by wining 4&3.

Well done team lets have some of the same in our next away game against Cricket St Thomas 13th June.

R15 Driver

The R15 is the new adjustable driver from TaylorMade. The R15 features a lower and more forward center of gravity which promotes lower spin and a higher launch angle. Myself and Tom Maggs will be running on course lessons to fine tune your game this summer. The lessons will include course management tailored to your game which helps positioning yourself better on the golf course. The lessons are 90 minutes and are easy to book, just simply ring the pro shop on 01749 679059.

Another factor which can help you is knowing your yardages!

Just a reminder that on top of course lessons I am offering a 45 minute session using the Flightscope X2 Elite, to allow you to find your individual yardage for each club. This information is vital to shoot lower scores and will also give you additional knowledge when playing another golf course. The main objective of the session is to gain an idea of how far each club in your golf bag travels on the carry giving an average yardage for each club, I will also put these average yardages onto a A6 laminated sheet which can easily fit on the outside of your golf bag so you never take the wrong club again!
