Captains Charity Day
Last Thursday was Captains' Charity Day, in aid of the Orchard Vale Trust and Multiple Sclerosis. In sun, then rain, then sun, the hardy golfers enjoyed the course at its very best. The winners by a good margin were the Plinkers made up of Ron Hancock, Mike Metcalfe, Nick Wilson and Peter Leverick. Second were the Plumbers Mates, led by Baden Wilkinson. There were several 2-spots including one from Ladies Vice Captain, Gill Magrath. The Chairman of Orchard Vale Trust, Chris Absolon, led the prize giving, which was followed by a very successful auction which helped the Club raise several thousand pounds for the two charities. Open 4BBB
Saturday 4th July saw the annual Open 4BBB Competition held at Wells Golf Club, again this year was a great success. The effort and hard work by people organising the event helped to keep the event running smoothly. The weather helped the course along the way with lush fairways and superb greens giving competitors plenty of opportunity to score well!
A big thank you to Shepton Mallet Honda Garage for sponsoring the 10th Hole, providing each entrant a chance to win a Honda Jazz worth £14000 if they got a hole in one! Unfortunately nobody achieved a hole in one this year however there were some close encounters threatening the hole.

In the pro shop we have a new selection of grips which are loud, bright and very comfortable to use. With different sizes and colours to choose from you can customize your set however you like!
Putter Grips
DISCOVER THE TWO THUMB GRIP!
Oversized putter grips have become more popular throughout golf and they have helped lower scores all over the world. The advantage of having a slightly larger putter grip means that your hands, wrists and forearms are able to relax, as a result this helps your shoulder to rock for a more repeatable stroke.
Many Tour players you see on the television use putter grips which are larger than usual or have a slightly different shape. Players choose these grips so they can effectively distribute their grip pressure on the putter to relieve tension in the putting stroke. Tour players such as Jordan Speith, Jason Dufner and Dave Stockton use Superstroke Putter Grips to help lower their scores!
In the professional shop we have a new type of putter grip called the two thumb grip, this grip works in the same way as a super stroke grip however the hold on the grip is advised slightly differently so you achieve maximum performance.
If you would like some advice on what putter grip suits you, please visit us in the professional shop for more information or contact us on 01749 679059.

Team News
Wells Stragglers played a return match on Sunday 28/06/15 at Home to Saltford GC. Unfortunately, the visitors were a few players short for the normal format and so a combination of Stableford and 4BBB matches were played with Wells being the overall winners, 3 points to 2. Pascal Norman and Pete Michell halved, John Baker and Ron Davey Won, Terry Searle and Philip Kenworthy Won 3 and 2, Gary Leigh and Bill Marcham halved, with the final pairing of Simon Elliot and Clive Cornish, losing 4 and 3.
The July Seniors` medal was played recently on a beautiful day with clear blue skies and minimal wind. The course was in fantastic condition with plenty of run and quick greens which putted smoothly throughout. A good sized field returned good scores compatible with in the conditions. Creditable nett 71`s from Terry Searle and Stephen Payne were just outside the prizes while Glen Crocker played to handicap, carding 79 (nett 70) to take third place. Peter Leverick , the Seniors` 2015 Captain, defied the usual mid-season loss of form that comes with captaincy, with an excellent 77 ( nett 67 ) and although this would normally be a winning score, Dave Hayward , the Seniors` Vice captain played some magnificent golf and shot 75 ( nett 65 ) to win. Hayward's win has been on the cards for some time as he has been playing well all season without managing to achieve the scores in singles medal competition. The win means he becomes another single figure handicap senior golfer.
Wells Stragglers Team also hosted Dawlish Warren GC on Sunday 5th July. The weather was kind to start with but the last hour saw heavy downpours of rain and even some hailstones. Wells turned in a good performance and won the match 3.5 points to 1.5. There were wins for Rogers and Kenworthy by 2&1and Burgoyne and Marcham by 3&2. Pascal Norman, playing off 5, and his partner Bill Levell, won 3&2 despite giving their opponents 17 & 18 shots. Hockey and Boatswain secured a 1/2 and Searle and Chillington (acting Captain for the day) lost 2 down.
