Competition News

The Seniors Mixed Open was held in perfect golfing conditions and was played in a Bowmaker format with one ladies' and one gents score to count on each hole. The first home team, with an outstanding 87 points, was Erica Klim, Cath Levell, Mike Metcalfe and Ian McArthur. In second place were David Leasley, Silvia Gibbon, Gill Magrath and Mike Magrath.

On Tuesday 21st July, Wells Seniors played a home match against Knowle in fine weather with the course in excellent condition, just right for good scoring. Wells started strongly with victories for Captain, Peter Leverick, and John Moxon (5&4), Ken Stokes and David Wensley (3&2) and Gary Middleton and Allan Bancroft (1up). Knowle fought back with wins against George Davis and Piers Dalby and Mike Gee with Ron Hancock. However, Wells finished strongly, with wins for Ken Ford and Len Sweales (1up) and John Watson with Mike Shave recording an impressive win (7&6). Wells won the match 5 - 2.

The Wells 1st team played Filton at home and although the weather was poor to begin with, it did stop raining eventually. Wells' first pairing, Rob Payne and Chris Betenson lost a close game 2&1 and while the second pairing, Rich Connock and his son, Jacob, were 3 up after 6, they were gradually edged out and in the end lost 2 down. Third pairing, Ian Burr and Simon Jackson narrowly lost 1 down, to a superb putt on the last. Wells' fourth pair, Nick Wilson and Pascal Norman won a steady game 4&3 and the 5th and last pair of Mike Metcalfe and Will Thompson won comfortably 7&6. The final result was Wells 2 Filton 3.

The Men's Medal and Round 2 of the Cheddar Trophy was played on Sunday 19th July. Division 1 of the Medal was won by Pascal Norman (68 nett) followed by Simon Lord (70 nett) and Andy Williams (72 nett). Bill McCollom won Division 2 (70 nett) and Division 3 winner was Stewart Brock (67 nett), followed by John Mackness (71 nett). Congratulations go to Andy Williams, the winner of the Cheddar Trophy with rounds of 70 nett and 72 nett.

Having already enjoyed winter training with the Somerset Junior Development Squad and Wells Golf Club Scholarship squad, 4 boys from Wells Golf Club were selected to play in a match against the full Under 14 Boys County squad. Their ages range from 9 to 11 and with only 8 selected across the whole County this was quite an achievement. Pictured left to right are Freddie Lovell, Edward Higgs, Atley Stacey Day (Captain) and Tom Roberts in their Pro 365 sponsored shirts. All four are enjoying their golf and improving all of the time and it will not be long before they make their full County debuts."

TaylorMade Clubs

Would you like to follow in the footsteps of Justin Rose, Jason Day, Dustin Johnson and many more? All these champions use TaylorMade equipment through their bag! You can, simply get fitted for any of our TaylorMade clubs on the Flightscope and experience the excellent feedback yourself!

R15 Driver

The R15 is the new adjustable driver from TaylorMade. The R15 features a lower and more forward center of gravity which promotes lower spin and a higher launch angle. The Front Track system as you can see on the picture, is designed to act like a speed pocket similar to the AeroBurner. Not only does the Front Track system reduce spin and increase the sweet spot it also allows you to move the weights around to tailor your particular ball flight. For example sliding the weights to the center create maximum distance and sliding them apart to each end of the Track System Creates maximum clubhead stability.

R15 Driver - £329.95

AeroBurner Range

The New AeroBurner Driver from TaylorMade features an aerodynamic shape which helps to create clubhead speed. It's raised crown and new "hosel fin" helps the club travel through the air and reduce drag which creates maximum distance. As seen before in older TaylorMade products the speed pocket design is still featured within the new AeroBurner and this time it's bigger and better. The Speed Pocket located on the sole of the driver is two times longer which increases the size of the sweet spot and reduces spin.

AeroBurner Driver - £229.95
AeroBurner Mini Driver -£199.95
AeroBurner Fairway - £169.95
AeroBurner Hybrid - £139.95

RSi Irons

The New RSI Irons have developed the Speed Pocket design from previous clubs and now created a Face Slot design. The Face Slot technology located on the clubface provides control and flexion across the clubface making "off centre hits" more forgiving. The Face Slot is used within the 3 to 7 iron and this is combined with TaylorMade's thinnest face design yet, providing speed and consistency.

RSI Irons 5-PW - £499.95

Loft & Lie Check

If you haven't been custom fitted before and you feel your clubs are effecting your performance, why not let us loft and lie check your clubs!

Checking your lofts are correct will help to create an equal distance gap between each of your clubs. If you are hitting your 5 iron further than your 6 iron then now is the time to bring your clubs into us!

Checking your lie angle is also important because an incorrect lie angle with promote more offline golf shots. For example if the lie is too upright the ball will fly left and too flat will cause the ball to fly right.

The professional shop has specialist equipment to adjust the clubs and this service only costs £15.

For more information on this service contact the professional shop. Click here to e-mail me.

TaylorMade RSi irons

What's the difference between the RSi 1 and RSi 2 irons? And what's this we hear about mis-hits going further and being less destructive? Find out more by watching this video and speak to one of the team about TaylorMade's RSi irons...

Callaway Chrome Soft

The reason we ask is because this ball has been getting a lot of good reviews. It uses a low compression core to help amateurs compress the ball more easily, so it's long. You'll get good reaction around the greens, too, because of the softest and most durable Urethane cover Callaway has ever made.
