Wells Seniors Pre AGM

A large field of 57 players took part in the end of season Wells Seniors' Pre-AGM Stableford Competition. The overall winner with 38 points was Colin Webber. For 17 and under handicaps, 1st place went to Dave Szymanski with Mike Metcalfe in 2nd and Steve Rowse in 3rd; for the18 and over handicaps, 1st place went to Chris Strickland with Dave Gibbon in 2nd and Paul Hole in 3rd. 9 players made 2s on a day when the scoring was difficult, despite fine weather.

Wells Ladies Away Day

The Wells' Ladies Away Day was held at Long Sutton where the sun shone, the birds sang and the scene was set for high scoring games. Some balls had difficulty finding the hole but no difficulty finding ditches, ponds and trees! 

With a magnificent 71 points the winners were Sue Hockey, Sue Slade and Julie Blunden. They were followed by Tina Davies, Janette Norris and Lynda Cornish. The team with highest score for the front nine were Doreen Douglas, Diane Ramsay and Liz Hamblin and the back nine highest scorers were Jackie Clark, Hazel Carmichael and Chris Gee.

Seniors Captains Away Day

On the 29th September Wells Seniors held their annual Seniors Captain's Away Day at Taunton & Pickeridge Golf Club. Playing conditions were excellent with the warm sunshine and light breezes of an Indian summer.

The competition was played in pairs drawn at random from a field of 46 players who produced some very good golf and impressive scoring. 1st place and the Captains Away Day Shield went to Colin Webber and David Szymanski with 45 points. In 2nd place, close behind with 44 points, were Captain Peter Leverick and George West. 3rd place went to Nick Wilson and Piers Dalby, on count back, also with 44 points. Roger Webber and Brian Cowley were 4th with Bill Carruthers and George White 5th place, both with 43 points.

The golf was followed by a meal, prize giving and a well-supported raffle in aid of MS. An excellent day was had by all; a fitting end to a busy and successful season.'

Stragglers

The Wells Stragglers held their end of Season Competition on Sunday. Four Teams of Three played for "The Special Yellow Ball Trophy" which is an outstanding prize to sit on anybody's mantelpiece for six months. The weather was good, no wind, no rain, quite warm, Fast Greens, high Scores in the 90's were expected!

Results were: 
4th - John Baker, Ron Davey, Jon Mackness - 64 Points
3rd - Terry Pearce, Bernhard Young, Pete Bartholomew - 73 Points
2nd - Mike McKay, Clive Cornish, Rory Meek - 78 Points
1st - Simon Elliot, Steve Porter, Andrew Boatswain - 78 Points (Winners on Count-back)

Onwards and Upwards for a New Season next year with high temperatures and high scores being predicted.
